Why your brand matters more than you think

This week has been all about brand. It started with me heading to Brand Club – a brilliant event where you network, hear from a guest speaker, and walk away with professional photos for your brand. The venue was right on the seafront, the sun was out, and we got some gorgeous shots.

Having these images is so important. They’re not just “nice to have”, they’re part of how your brand is seen, how people connect with you, and how you show your personality through your business.

And the brand theme didn’t stop there. I’ve been working with a handful of start-ups this week, which is honestly one of my favourite things to do.

Some are right at the beginning – choosing a name that feels right and aligns with their brand. For others, it’s been about making a small tweak to their name to give them more flexibility down the line. One client already has their new brand designed by us and we’re now building their website – a step further along the journey.

What I love most is being involved from the very start. Helping people think about:

  • what they actually do

  • who they’re here to help

  • where they see themselves in the future

Every founder is different. They’re at different stages of their life and career.

But the one constant is this: nailing the right brand strategy makes everything else easier.

When your brand is clear and consistent, decisions feel easier, marketing feels less of a headache, and people “get” you faster. When it isn’t, things can feel muddled – for you and your audience.

Your Sunday School task this week

No matter what stage your business is at, take 10 minutes this week to check in with your brand.

Ask yourself:

  • Does my brand reflect who I am and what I do?

  • Does it connect with the people I want to reach?

  • Is it consistent across my socials, website, and offline presence?

If the answer is “not quite,” then that’s your starting point. Sometimes it’s a refresh, sometimes it’s a tweak, and sometimes it’s getting the foundations right from the very beginning.
