It’s not every day you find yourself on the front cover of your local paper – but that’s exactly what happened this week. The Echo featured a story close to my heart, recognising the journey of I am Emily Marketing and my recent nominations across two national business awards.

This isn’t just about me – it’s about what the business stands for. I launched I am Emily Marketing 16 years ago, working from my dining table with just one client, one laptop, and a vision to do business differently. Since then, it’s grown into a straight-talking agency working with charities, creatives and purpose-led brands across Essex and beyond.
Being shortlisted for the Best Solopreneur and Best Creative Business at the Best Businesswomen Awards, alongside a nomination at the Woman Who Solopreneur Awards, is such an honour. These awards celebrate women running businesses on their own terms – with clarity, creativity and heart.
It takes a village…While I’m the sole director, I’m definitely not doing it alone. I work alongside a brilliant team of freelance experts – many of whom are women, local, and often underrepresented voices in the industry. Together, we help our clients show up strategically, build visibility, and grow with confidence.
The Echo article touches on all of this – including our community work, support for charities, and commitment to values-led marketing. I’m incredibly grateful to be recognised for that, especially in my local area.
What this means to meThese nominations aren’t about vanity metrics or shiny trophies. They’re about visibility, connection, and showing what’s possible when you build a business with purpose. I entered because I believe in the power of role models – and if reading this gives someone else the courage to back themselves too, then it’s already worth it.
One sparkly day ahead
On 10th October, I’ll be at both award events – the Woman Who Solopreneur Awards Lunch in Coventry, followed by the Best Businesswomen Awards in Daventry. It’ll be a full day of celebration (with my brilliant teammate Natalie alongside me), and a reminder that small businesses, when done with heart, can make a big impact.
Thank you to The Echo for shining a light on local business and giving visibility to stories like this one. I’m proud to be part of such a supportive community – and even prouder of what I’ve built.
